| History of site: |
David Gavin bought Langton Estate in 1758 and immediately set about its reorganisation. Gavin was an improving landlord and one of the pioneers of the Agricultural Revolution in the Borders. He demolished the settlement of Langton, incorporated the site into the grounds of his house, and removed the population to a new planned village, which he named "Gavintown". |
