Doors Open Day events are part of a Europe-wide programme called European Heritage Days. The aim is to bring people in Europe closer to each other and their heritage. Co-ordinated by the Council of Europe, it encourages many European countries to run similar celebrations at roughly the same time of year. The overall programme for Doors Open Day in Scotland is co-ordinated by the Scottish Civic Trust.
