History of site:

To the north of Kelso and within easy walking distance of the Town Square is Floors Castle (reputedly the largest house in Scotland). It was designed and built for the 1st Duke of Roxburghe by William Adam between 1721-6. The house was extensively remodelled between 1837-45 by William H Playfair to give it its present imposing appearance.
