It is claimed that Traquair is the oldest inhabited house in Scotland and it was, at one time, a favourite residence of Scottish kings. The earliest part of the building probably dates to 1492 when James Stewart, received a grant of the property. The house was altered and extended during the 16th and 17th centuries, and two wings were added later.
