A public forest around the headwaters of the Borthwick Water provides a range of different habitats for wildlife and a picturesque waterfall on the Wolfcleuch Burn.
The forest was planted over former moorland and includes prehistoric settlements, a stretch of the Roman road from Eskdale to the Tweed, a carved stone known as the “Loupin’ On Stane” and medieval farmsteads.
